The History

Fredheim Health Center, owned and operated by the Heartgood Foundation, sits on side of the forest-covered hill above the well-known silver mining territory 12 kilometers outside of Kongsberg, Norway. Trails lead in all directions into the forests and up to the many little lakes near Fredheim, and the location, at 350 meters above sea level, gives Fredheim a beautiful view of the Skrim mountains.

This was not always the case, however. Fredheim first saw the light of day in 1980 in the little town of Skotselv. The facilities were small and the surroundings left much to be desired. Space was available for only ten guests at a time, and before long, the center was constantly booked at least three months in advance.

Seven years later, the center was relocated from the little building in Skotselv to it's location, Saggrenda, outside of Kongsberg. The new location was formerly a center for asthmatic Danish children, but it was no longer in use, and came up for sale. The beautiful scenery and walking terrain made it the perfect place for a health center. We made an offer that fit into our budget, and against all logical expectations, it was decided that we could buy the place. We were blessed in that we received the money needed to buy the building and make it usable again.
